MakeMyMusic is an end-to-end digital music composition system combining established principles of music theory and composition, grounded in the training and experience of its founder, with human creative direction and modern technologies.
MakeMyMusic is not simply a prompt-based AI song generator. It creates original songs through a structured, multi-stage process encompassing musical planning, lyrics, harmony, melody, form, notation, vocal realization, accompaniment, and final audio production.
Music First. Technology Where It Belongs.
The system uses the technology appropriate to each task. Large language models are specialized components within a broader architecture; deterministic software validates and repairs musical output; MIDI and notation systems represent and process the composition; synthesis technologies realize vocals and instruments; and conventional audio-production techniques create the finished recording.
Musical Fingerprints
A key element of MakeMyMusic is its use of musical “fingerprints” — aggregate characteristics derived from famous songs or pieces of music selected as inspiration, including tempo, form, rhythm, texture, instrumentation, and other high-level attributes.
The system does not use the source work’s melody, harmony, or lyrics.
Instead, these non-reconstructable fingerprints provide creative direction for composing new, original music.
Built on a Lifetime of Music and Technology
MakeMyMusic was founded by Michael Drapkin, a technical founder, musician, author, and systems architect whose career spans more than 50 years in music and technology. His musical background includes training at the Eastman School of Music and a career as a professional clarinetist and bass clarinetist, arranger, orchestrator, author, and publisher.
His technical career includes decades of experience designing and building software systems, SaaS platforms, enterprise architectures, e-commerce systems, process automation, database applications, machine learning, and systems incorporating large language models. He also served as Chair of the eCommerce Management program at Columbia University, where he taught and helped shape its curriculum.
That combination is fundamental to MakeMyMusic: the system is designed from a musician’s perspective, not around any single technology.
